BIOGRAPHY:
The History of Betrayer
begins and ends with dreams and dedication, with the
occasional touch of good fortune. Shawn Hebert, drummer, and Jeff Klingbeil,
vocalist and guitarist, met under unlikely circumstances during the summer
of 1996. Klingbeil, developing quickly into a phenomenal guitarist, was
searching for musicians to start a new band after he had parted ways with
his former group. Hebert, on the other hand had been playing drums for
only
a few months but was inspired by his dream to be a musician. Through
friends, classmates, and relatives, the two met in July and an instant
bond
was created. Throughout that following summer, numerous musicians came
into
and promptly left, due to either personal problems or lack of dedication
to
the music. The first steady lineup of the band, then known as Cornerstone,
consisted of Klingbeil, Hebert, Ryan Clifford on guitars, and Brian Blais
on
bass. This lineup produced the first versions of originals 'Wretched Ways',
'Descendants of Death', and 'Fire to the Coals'. The group's first gig
in
Harrow, Ontario broke an attendance record at the venue and included some
publicity courtesy of the Harrow newspaper.
A year later, during the summer of 1997, Blais decided
to pursue drums in a
new band, creating an opening for bass. A month following this departure,
Clifford left the band due to complications with his work schedule and
inability to commit to the band's efforts. Despite these losses, a positive
outlook was held as Vince Manzerolle was brought into the band, brining
the
connections needed to secure guitarist Warren Rawlins soon thereafter.
This
new ensemble came to be known as Swarm, due to copyright of their former
name.
The fate of the band changed again in March of 1999,
when current bass
player Norm Michaud replaced Manzerolle following a one-night stand in
for
the former member. That summer, the band would head into Glen Fricker's
Spectre Sound studios to record a three song demo. The following fall,
Rawlins and Swarm parted ways mutually. At this time, the remaining members
decided to become a power trio. In the following months, promotion of
the
band via the demo occurred, as well as more local shows and events.
In late 1999, it was brought to the band's attention
that Swarm was under
copyright. Under consensus, the band was renamed Betrayer - a name that
promotes the revolution against trends and to demonstrate their
determination. Focused, the band began gaining popularity rapidly and
entered the studio again in the summer of 2000 to record 'Rusted Icons'.
The
ensuing months would bring web designer, marketing consultant, and honorary
band member Mark Wolf into the scheme of things as the band would sell
out
local music stores and play intense live shows in support of the debut.
S&M
Music was contacted in order to duplicate the album and the most important
connection for Betrayer was made then. In February of 2001, guitarist
Bill
Lozon joined the band to relieve pressures from Klingbeil and intensify
the
band's sound.
Into the unknown, Betrayer is focused and determined
to realize their hopes
and dreams. Uncompromising their values and integrity, maintaining their
passion for the music, and remembering their roots and objectives are
what
drive these musicians as they prepare to take on the world with all they
have to offer.
Trends are made to be broken... Revolution is
destined to occur... Betrayer
will succeed.
