BIOGRAPHY:
Intelligent riffery, primal and unpredictable, fiftywatthead plough a
familiar trough with a tractor from Mars. It's rock-n-roll with a twist
of the unexpected. From the desperate, uncalculated vocals,
to the almost-but-not-quite-out-of-time rhythm changes, fiftywatthead
give you what you want but fuck with you on the way there. Guitarist Ben
Guthrie, drummer Kevin Patrick and bassist Bill Butt
round out a power quartet that place as much emphasis on cacophonous sonic
exploration as they do on cathartic, suspense and release, rhythm tactics.
Tightness is a key definition when it comes to the description of the
bands musical relationship. They have been playing together for
years and share an almost scary near telepathic understanding of each
others playing. J. Drummonds vocals are sporadic, eerie, and unconfined
to the traditional verse-chorus-verse trappings thanks to a band that
began it's life as an instrumental outing. Dirge like riffs, punctuated
with schizophrenic guitar work and clever arrangements make fiftywatthead
an
intriguing listen, and an essential live show for fans of rawk with a
head on its shoulders.
